How long will it take to resolve this case?

A lawsuit in Harris County, Texas and surrounding counties generally can take 8 to 12 months to get to trial. However, resolution can occur at anytime. Lawsuits are not quick. Your lawyer should be able to discuss strategy with you the first time you and he/she meet and he/she should be able to lay out a timeline of events for you. Activity in most lawsuits occurs in waves. If you can imagine the crest of a wave as a period of activity, the trough of the wave is the opposite, a period of inactivity. The reason for this phenomenon is a lawsuit is project driven. For example, if the creditor sends you “discovery” or requests for documents or answers to questions, you have a certain period of time within which to respond. Usually, as the time to respond nears the level of activity increases – a wave crest. Your lawyer will counsel you how to respond to the discovery.
