I recently applied for credit and I was turned down. Why?

When you apply for credit, whether it is for a car loan or a home loan, a lender will generally pull your credit report through one of the major credit reporting agencies. When they pull your credit report, they will look for certain things such as a failure to pay your debts and obligations, repossessions, charge-offs and bankruptcies to name a few. Additionally, they will look at the amount of debt you have versus your income. If you have poor payment history or too much debt, a lender will not usually consider you a good credit risk. In such a case, they will deny your loan.
